Dinner Rolls

These dinner rolls are FANTASTIC

You can make mini sandwiches

You can use them as dinner rolls

Make them larger and make hamburger or frankfuter rolls.

I have made them and froze them.

Once they are defrosted or even if they are simply room temperature,  put the rolls in a brown paper bag. Sprinkle with water. Put them into the oven to warm them up. People will think that you just took them out of the oven.

Actually that would be true.

4 to 4 ½ Cups of all-purpose flour

1 package of active dry yeast

1/3 cup of sugar

1/3 cup= (5 1/3 Tablespoons) of butter, margarine or shortening

1 teaspoon of salt

2 eggs

Traditional Method:

In a large bowl combine 2 cups of flour and yeast. In saucepan heat milk; sugar; butter, margarine, or shortening; and salt just till warm and the butter is melted; stir constantly. Add flour to mixture; add eggs. Beat at low speed of electric mixer for ½ minute, scraping sides of bowl constantly. Beat three minutes at high speed.

Stir in as much of the remaining flour as you can mix with a spoon. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead in enough dough that it is smooth and elastic. Place it in a greased bowl. Cover let rise in a warm place till doubled. Punch down and divide in half. Cover; let rest for about ten minutes.

It is possible to make several types of rolls: brown and serve, hamburger buns, or frankfurter buns, etc.

Rosettes. Lightly grease baking sheet. Divide dough into 16 pieces… roll each one into a 12” rope. Tie it into a knot and tuck the ends into the bottom of the roll. Place them 2”-3” apart on a greased baking sheets. Cover and allow to rise (another thirty minutes or so) Bake 375 for 12-15 minutes

*** If you have a bread machine. Place the ingredients in the bread machine (my machine requires that the yeast be kept separate from any wet ingredients and I make a well in the flour which is the last item to be added). Set on “dough” setting.  When the cycle is done, punch down the dough; allow it to rest for a brief period and then follow the directions as stated above in regards to shaping; allowing the dough to rise. Bake and enjoy!
