Blondie Brownies (no Chocolate)

½ cup shortening        ½ tsp baking powder

1 Tbsp milk                   1/8 tsp salt

1 cup brown sugar      1 tsp vanilla extract

1 egg beaten                 ½ cup chopped walnuts

1 cup all-purpose flour

 

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease and flour an 8 x 8 inch pan.

Combine shortening and milk in large saucepan. Place over low heat until shortening melts. Remove from heat,. Add the brown sugar and egg. Allow the mixture to cool a bit before the egg is added. Stir until well blended. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt; stir into sugar mixture. Stir in vanilla and nuts. Spread evenly into prepared pan

Bake 350 degrees for 20 – 25 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.

Cool and cut into 2” x 2” squares
